What we do

The mission of the Bandwidth Barn is to fast track the pace of business growth in the ICT sector in the Western Cape by helping businesses to establish themselves, commercialise new products and services, create jobs and wealth and add economic diversity to the community. Focusing on SMMEs in the Province, the BWB will encourage innovation and provide ongoing training and support needed to help clients to overcome the entry barriers to start-up, survival and growing their businesses and thus accelerate their development.

The Bandwidth Barn’s incubation model is a combination between, on the one hand, narrow and deep incubation, with intensive services for a limited number of clients and, on the other, shallow and broad services incubation, with less intensive services for many clients. These two are not mutually exclusive and has allowed the BWB to offer shallow and broad services to a larger number of companies and, through its enterprise development programmes (Launchpad/Velociti, My Business group and My Mentor), to generate and nurture a limited number of quality clients/companies for intensive incubation and development.

The BWB has a two-pronged approach to supporting companies.

The first prong of the approach is that we lower the physical barriers of starting up a new business and mitigate the risks by ensuring companies are not bound to long term leases.

The second prong of our approach is a carefully considered and proven business development programmes to equip the budding entrepreneur with basic skills to ensure sustainability.
